Volunteers are still needed for this important event. Sign up today at

Each year, people across the United States come together on Dr. King’s birthday to observe the only federal holiday that is designated as a National Day of Service. For the past 14 years, with the support of individuals like you, the Athens-Clarke County community has been a part of this nationwide movement.

With an average of 1,000 citizens volunteering each year, our community has truly realized the national objective of making Martin Luther King, Jr. Day not only one of celebration, but also “A Day On and Not a Day Off.”

Join Athens Land Trust, Athens Community Council on Aging, Clarke County School District, United Way of Northeast GA, Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful, UGA Center for Leadership and Service, and the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government in honoring MLK’s legacy and building a better community.

A brief celebration/reception will be held at the West Broad Farmers Market from 11:00 a.m. to noon following the service.
