View the Shopping List of Symbolic Gifts, pdf file
The Holiday Benevolence Market began in 1994 as a joint venture between First Presbyterian member Mary Burton and the First Presbyterian Outreach committee. In 2003, other Athens congregations joined. This year, 10 churches and the United Way are participating, and more than 28 nonprofit organizations are represented at the market.
Patrons are given a “Shopping List” that includes all of the agencies represented and items that can be “purchased.” The list includes a range of prices. Participate in the Benevolence Market this Sunday, December 8, from noon to 3 at First Baptist Church or online through the end of the year. The Benevolence Market offers virtual gifts of $3 for a packet of seeds, $25 which provides $50 of fresh food for a family in need, and $75 which provides a square foot of a newly constructed affordable home.
Special thanks to this year’s sponsors:
Congregation Children of Israel ♦ Ebenezer Baptist Church ♦ WestFirst AME Church
First Baptist Church ♦ First Christian Church ♦ First Presbyterian Church

WBMG Community “Sponsored” Agriculture
At the West Broad Market Garden, we’ve introduced a spin on the traditional CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) model, in the sense that our subscribers are more than just supporters of our farm. All 25 of our CSA shareholders are also directly contributing to our grassroots 1/2 Priced Produce Program, through which we are able to offer sustainably grown produce at affordable prices to low-income community members. By participating in our sponsorship program, all of our subscribers are, in effect, saying “Yes, I believe healthy, naturally grown produce should be available to all individuals, regardless of income or location.”
Interested in becoming a CSA Shareholder?
Please download and complete the following WBMG CSA Application and “Introduction to Community Sponsored Agriculture”. Please return your completed application to Christina Hylton, Community Agriculture Program Director, email@example.com
Submit payment via the “Click and Pledge”, once your payment has been submitted, please send an email to Nathan Shannon, ALT’s Asset Manager, including your name and informing him to process your submission as payment for your CSA membership. firstname.lastname@example.org
