MLK Day of Service

January 16 @ 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

Each year, people across the United States come together on Dr. King’s birthday to observe the only federal holiday that is designated as a National Day of Service. For the past 14 years, with the support of individuals like you, the Athens-Clarke County community has been a part of this nationwide movement.

With an average of 1,000 citizens volunteering each year, our community has truly realized the national objective of making Martin Luther King, Jr. Day not only one of celebration, but also “A Day On and Not a Day Off.”

Volunteers will pitch in at 18 different sites around Athens following a kick-off celebration held at the Lay Park Community Center (297 Hoyt Street, Athens, GA 30601). The kick-off starts at 8:30 a.m., with registered volunteers getting free t-shirts and breakfast. Volunteers will listen to this year’s featured speaker Life the Griot, a local spoken word artist, before dispersing to their work sites at 9:30 a.m. Driving directions from Lay Park to your site will be provided.

Volunteer Registration will open in early December, to register go to https://uga.givepulse.com/group/events/118913
