Athens Heritage & Urban Agriculture Festival

West Broad School Original-1

The festival paid homage to Athens’ African-American heritage, with special emphasis on West Broad School, including its pioneering role in urban gardening and agriculture. The event was sponsored by the Athens Land Trust’s West Broad Market Garden, in collaboration with the Heritage Committee and the Athens Area Black History Committee. In addition to historic recognitions, the event included agricultural exhibits, artifacts and demonstrations on healthy-eating and healthy-cooking. Special guests include author/historian Michael Thurmond and USDA state director Quinton Robinson.
